After a short break last week (due to life overtaking me somewhat), I’m back in your inboxes with a dose of environmental optimism this week to tell you:
This week is Great Big Green Week!
This week-long calendar of climate action and green activities is organised by The Climate Coalition, a group of over 140 organisations including the RSPB, National Trust and Oxfam.
So this week’s Green Good Deed is in two parts:
Read and sign The Climate Coalition’s ‘The Time is Now Declaration’
Get involved with the Great Big Green Week - there are events taking place around the country - or you can also download posters or tweet your MP from the website.
You could even set up your own event and add it to the Great Big Green Week calendar.
Charity of the Week
This weekend I was lucky enough to get a place on a 4-hour sea safari run by the brilliant Marine Discovery Penzance.
As well as grey seals, common dolphins and harbour porpoises, we also got some great views of two minke whales. It was a joy to see these animals feeding - and in the case of the dolphins, playing - so near to where I live.
So this week’s charity is Whale and Dolphin Conservation. Head to their website to find out more about their work to protect whales and dolphins, to end whaling and to end the practice of keeping these beautiful animals in captivity.
And finally…
A shout-out to another substack I found recently called Gen Dread. In the words of the author, Britt:
Consider this newsletter the clearing house for new, old, and emerging ideas to strengthen our emotional intelligence, psychological resilience, and mental health while we’re in this planetary pickle.
🙌 to that.
